Over the past few weeks we have been talking to your child about staying safe online. We have had assemblies, discussions and shown videos about the issues concerning being safe when using the internet and others means of communication. Hopefully they have talked to you about these issues. There has been much publicity surrounding the problems and dangers that our current society faces. In particular the risks attached to children publicising their personal details on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. Causing concern also is the increasing use of websites, text messaging, bluejacking, and email to bully and harass – not only during school hours but at any time of the day.
As part of our ongoing commitment to educate our students and our wider community, we would like you to attend a conference at the school, where you can find out more about these issues. On the 21st April, you will have opportunities to meet people from SafeChild, Police, the local community, and our school. You will be able to find out more about what YOU can do to protect your child and what you can do if you need advice or to report a problem. We feel this is a great opportunity for parents to get a greater understanding about an issue which concerns all of us.
We sincerely hope you can spare the time to help us to help your child.
Mr. G. Gould
Head of ICT
