Dear Parent / Guardian

I thought it would be helpful to you if I clarified our position regarding the closure of the school in the event of snow.

• We want to do all we can to stay open because we believe that the learning of pupils is paramount, that many parents find it difficult to make child care arrangements at the last minute and we want to teach our pupils to take responsibility in more ‘difficult’ situations.

• We also recognise the genuine difficulties some of our pupils and staff have in getting into school safely if they live some distance from the school. After consulting some parents, pupils and staff we therefore propose to do the following:

- EITHER to keep the school open as normal whilst recognising that some staff and pupils will not be able to get in and as a result some lessons will be disrupted – our preferred strategy

- OR to delay the beginning of school to 10.00am to ensure that we have enough staff and pupils in school

- OR in exceptional circumstances to close

Whatever strategy we decide on we will relay the information on the local radio:

Heart 97.1 / 96.4FM; 103.9 or 104.6FM - Listen here

Radio Suffolk 95.5FM, 95.9FM, 103.9FM and 104.6FM - Listen here

- By text and / or email to your mobile phone / computer – if you have given us your number or email address – by 8.00am at the latest. If you do not receive a message on your text or email it will probably be because we have not yet got your latest information, so please let us know your latest details

- Please ignore any unofficial methods of communication and rely only on the above

• If buses do not run because of the conditions, parents will need to decide themselves what arrangements to take.

School closures and Sixth Form examinations

A number of Sixth Form students are understandably concerned about potential disruption caused by snow to their examinations. This will be our strategy:

• Examinations will all run whatever the weather because examination boards make no allowances and students will miss an opportunity

• We will ensure that local teaching staff come into school and begin the examination on time

• Students should do all they can to get in and they are allowed to be up to on hour late – after that time they will miss their chance

• In the event of any difficulties – buses not running – we will do our best to help

Could you please ring 01440 760333, a direct line number to Marian Merch-Chammon, Head’s PA, as early as possible if you have difficulties. The line could be engaged because of the volume of calls, so please leave a message with your name and number. We will do all we can to help.

Yours sincerely

Howard Lay

Principal

Dear Parent/Guardian

We are now in a position whereby we have a limited stock remaining in school of the faulty uniform and would be happy to distribute this to any student in need of trousers or jackets to keep them going until the summer.

Should you wish to request any uniform please call Mrs Pawley at the school with the size you require and she will check the stock for you. As you will appreciate some sizes are more popular than others so it may be that we will not have the size you require.

The new uniform will be available in school at the beginning of the summer break and we will write to you soon with more information and dates for this.

Thank you for your continued patience and support relating to this matter.

Yours sincerely

Mrs W Jeffery
