Dear Parent/Carer,As it will be raining and cooler tomorrow Thursday 22 June.. It will be full school uniform - though I am happy for students to...
I hope you and your families had a good half term and that students are ready for the summer term. Most students will have completed their internal examinations, though of course we still continue to support those Year 11, 12 and 13s who have exams to come. Teachers are on hand to help during their normal lesson time and there are revision spaces available all day for students to study and revise quietly. There are also many online resources and teachers will have informed students of these before they left. Good luck to all for those final exams.
Results for Year 12 and 13 will be available on Thursday August 17th.
Results for Year 10, 11 and Year 12 and 13 resits will be available on Thursday August 24th.
Last half term I informed you of the changes to our pastoral system and the move to following a more traditional year-based system for tutor groups. This will come into effect this half term with the majority of students moving into new year-based groups from June 12th. Year 8s will stay in their current tutor groups until the roll up on Monday 17th July. Year 8s will be interviewed by their new tutor so they can get to know them and students will be bringing home a slip to complete, which they will be bringing home to discuss with parents/carers over the coming week.
Please be aware that we will not be making any changes to tutor groups for trivial reasons, but if there are any serious issues, please ask your child to go and see Miss Powell, who will deal with the situation.
Expectations and equipment:
With the move to year groups we would like to revisit and underpin our expectations of students across the school. Please can you help support your child by ensuring they have their planner, pencil case and a reading book with them every day so they are ‘ready to learn’. Please make sure you check and sign planners weekly and support students in recording and completing their homework.
New Deputy Headteacher:
I am delighted to be welcoming Dr K Geall, who was previously at Soham Village College, to the team as our new deputy head. He will be leading on teaching and learning across the school and overseeing both Key Stage 4 and 5. I know he will be introducing himself to many of the students over the coming weeks and there will be opportunities for parents/carers to meet Mr Geall as well.
We would also like to thank Mr Dale, our previous deputy head for everything he has done for the school and the students of Samuel Ward. We wish him every success with his new venture as Director of Teaching and Learning across the Academy Trust.

As from Monday there will be a halt on electronic uniform ordering until 1 June when we launch School Colours Direct.
If you are in need of urgent uniform items you may telephone the school and if we have remaining stock in the correct size we will be able to supply you, however as previously noted in my recent letter there may be some sizes that will temporarily be unavailable throughout this transfer period. I apologise for any inconvenience however I am sure the new method will be more convenient for parents in the long term. In the meantime please contact my office staff if you have any uniform needs and they will do whatever they can to help.
