Samuel Ward Academy Governing Body

Our Governing Body has three core functions:

  • Setting the vision, ethos and values of the academy, within the context of the trust principles, values and aims.
  • Holding the Headteacher and Senior Leadership to account.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of our Academy.

We have up to 14 governors: 2 staff (including the head, Ms Just), 2 parents (elected by the parents), 1 governor from within the Trust and 9 other governors. These 9 governors are a mix of people from local business and the wider community who are interested in and want to support Samuel Ward Academy. Some of these 9 governors are, or have been, parents of students but others are not. We can also co-opt other interested people to our governing body.

Our role is to offer a mixture of challenge and support to the academy. We meet at least 6 times a year and the minutes of our meetings are available through the school office.

If you would like to know more about us or maybe join us, please contact me, Kate McDowell,

Chair of Governors at kmcdowell@samuelward.co.uk or via the school.
